Book Review- The Orioles Encyclopedia

Along with Baseball-Reference.com and to a lesser extent Wikipedia.org, this book is one of my key research tools as I write my posts. I also like to use my personal experiences, thoughts, and/or opinions whenever applicable, but, especially for vintage Orioles players, I don't have that option.

The Orioles Encyclopedia came out in early 2009 and covers everything Orioles from the teams' inception in 1954 through the 2008 squad. The 896 page book includes write-ups of varying lengths for every single player who appeared in even a single game for the Birds over those years and has a lot of great insight and information that I can't find anywhere else. I honestly haven't read the entire book, and maybe never will, but have cherry-picked various chapters and sections over the past few years. It also covers Orioles award winners, ballparks, managers, coaches, front office members, owners, and even breaks down the team year-by-year. If you want to know anything about the Orioles, this is your book.

I received my copy of the book as a birthday gift, but if you are interested in getting a copy of your own, here's a link to its' Amazon.com page. It should be available through most major book sellers if you prefer another company or website, it makes no difference to me!

I got this book as a Christmas gift this past year. It's a great reference for everything Orioles and a must for any hardcore O's fan.
